This work on paper bags has roots in the anonymous handwork and pieced quilts of centuries past as well as Feminist and Minimalist art. By using brown paper lunch bags, which are so familiar and commonplace, I rework the rhythms and rituals of everyday domestic life into a construct for art. These bags show evidence of past lives. They were containers of lunches, hardware, found objects, small purchases, coffee & bagels, gifts, perhaps a surprise... They were
a temporary means of transport, vessels, now flattened, recycled into
individual statements or familial patterns.
